At the circus

Curtise and I went to the circus a while ago. It had been the first time either of us has been to the circus in 40 or 50 years or so, so it made an impression.

Thinking about it, I realize I was at a circus (Barnum & Bailey and Ringling Bros all times) thrice when I was a kid, twice in Lancaster PA, and once with my dad at the old Pirates Stadium, when I was really young. All three times it was to a real old fashioned, 3 Ring Big Top show with dozens of acts — even though in those days, circuses, as businesses were having financial difficulties (hence the merger of former rivals like B&B and the Ringling Bros Circuses.)

From the looks of things, circuses have shrunk even more (the only time we’ve seen circus acts as adults has been on TV or at “Circus-Circus” Casinos.) Today was pretty good fun, but it made me sad to realize that some magic has gone out of the world, and this particular circus didn’t even have any elephants or other circus animal acts (OK, they had a miniature horse and a donkey-donkey.)
